Only one more week left of the season and on Match Day 33 nearly everything in the table stayed the same. The top six clubs picked up three points each, while the bottom three, fighting for relegation, all lost. So the Champions League 4th spot and the relegation play off spot will go down to the final day. With six away wins on the weekend, find out below who impressed on Match Day 33.

GOALKEEPER:
Ron-Robert Zieler (Hannover): Against a club fighting relegation Zieler had to put in a top class performance to keep a clean sheet. Nürnberg were hopeless at the back, but what they lacked defensively they made up for in trying to find the winner. A save off the line prevented Hlousek getting the equaliser after only 9 minutes, then at the tail end of the match Zieler denied Baltisch a costless header. Over the course of the game Zieler made 12 saves to keep his 6th clean sheet of the season.

DEFENDERS:
Santiago Garcia (Werder Bremen): Not a bad way to repay his employers after he signed a three year deal with the club during the week. Along with Aaron Hunt, Garcia has been one of Werder’s best players this season in a campaign that has had its ups and downs. Against Hertha BSC, Garcia had defensive stats that would put most centre backs to shame. Playing at left back, Garcia made 5 tackles, 3 interceptions and made 12 clearances in a vintage defensive display. In addition to his defensive quality Garcia offered plenty going forward to help the Werder attack.

Ricardo Rodriguez (Wolfsburg): Another left back in the team of the week as we were treated to an outstanding all round performance from Rodriguez. The Swiss international has been amazing this season and showed just why so many top European clubs are monitoring him. He made the most tackles of any player on the pitch with 8, made 2 interceptions and had 3 key passes. He also tested Ulreich with a narrow direct costless-kick, but the Stuttgart keeper tipped it over the bar.

Robin Knoche (Wolfsburg): The 21 year old has had a fantastic season, which saw him quickly become a first team regular alongside Naldo. On the weekend he made 4 tackles, 5 clearances and won 7 aerial duels to prevent Stuttgart finding the winning goal. In addition he also made the most completed passes of any other player on Match Day 33, making a total of 102. This guy has a bright future ahead of him and should develop even faster with the prospect of European football next season.

Jan-Ingwer Callsen-Bracker (Augsburg): A vintage defensive display by the 29 year old. Braunschweig wanted and needed to pick up points in this game and Callsen-Bracker was one of the main reasons why they couldn’t. 2 tackles, 2 interceptions, 13 clearances and 11 aerial duels won meant the hosts couldn’t get many clear shooting chances at the Augsburg goal.

MIDFIELDERS:
Aaron Hunt (Werder Bremen): Werder will miss the talisman figure that is Aaron Hunt next season. The match against Hertha BSC this weekend will be his last for the club after 13 years of service. He repaid the fans for their support by scoring both goals on the weekend. His first came from a determined run from deep with a one-two from Di Santo, which ended up him smashing the ball high into the back of the net. With seconds left in the game it was fitting that Hunt scored again to make it 2-0 and claim the Man of the Match.

Roman Neustädter (Schalke): A quiet achiever for Schalke, Neustädter did everything right in this game. He helped the defence against a threatening Freiburg attack while supporting the Schalke forwards. He made 4 tackles and assisted in both goals. While both were simple passes that initiated the goals, it summed up his overall solid play that kept Schalke ticking.

Emre Can (Leverkusen): Just the performance Leverkusen needed as they continue to stay in 4th spot. Can was immense in midfield against Frankfurt as he made 7 tackles, went past players 3 times and took 4 shots. Of those shots, he took two in the span of a few seconds. After ghosting past the Frankfurt defenders Can simply jogged onto a through ball and calmly took a first time shot. The attempt came off the upright and back into his path only for him to finish it with ease.

Mario Götze (Bayern): Götze came out recently saying he was disappointed with his first season at Bayern due to the lack of playing time. Despite that, he put in an amazing performance against Hamburg to show Guardiola just why he should be in the starting lineup. A one-two with Robben ended up in Götze opening the proceedings with a deft touch. His second was stolen from him after Müller got a toe on the end of his shot. The slight deflection helped it past Adler, but that one went down as an assist. However, he didn’t need to wait long for his second as Müller made it up to him by unselfishly heading the ball into the youngster’s path. A first touch with the chest and a finesse volley made him reach double figures for the season. Setting up Pizarro for the 4th meant Götze was involved in all of the Bavern’s goals in what was the performance of the weekend.

Kevin Großkreutz (Dortmund): With Marco Reus now playing behind the striker, Großkreutz’s normal position on the left of the midfield has opened up. As a result it was either Hoffenheim underestimating him, bad defending or a bit of both, but the versatile Dortmund player ghosted in from the left to score his teams first goal. He tried again in the second half, finding himself in the penalty box but put it just wide of the upright. Once again he was given more space and he did it again, but Grahl got a hand to his curling shot. The all-rounder has been a vital asset this season and played an important role against Hoffenheim on the weekend.

STRIKERS:
Max Kruse (Gladbach): It was a quality performance from Max Kruse against Mainz, and just in time too. With the preliminary World Cup squad to be announced soon, Kruse has found himself in some solid form to put him in the frame for going to Brazil. He scored Gladbach’s second goal after taking the ball away from goal, then coming back in to shoot a driven left footed shot from the edge of the box. In the 77th minute he set up Kramer who made it 3-1. So this weekend’s results mean Kruse has now scored 12 goals and assisted another 12 in his first season at Gladbach.
