The last action of the first 2.Bundesliga weekend saw Kaiserslautern host 1860 Munich. Before the two sides kicked off it was already a highly anticipated game and it turned out to be the perfect advert for the league. There are no doubts about it it, this was the game of the weekend, it had everything you could ask for in a game of football.

The game started in a fantastic fashion and in the early stages Kaiserslautern were the better side. Kaiserslautern's Karim Matmour was unfortunate not to open the scoring, a ball over the top saw him through on goal, only for him to be denied by Vallori who had raced back to stop the shot heading in. Kaiserslautern continued to apply the pressure in an end-to-end first half. One of the best evidence of this was an impressive counter attack by Kaiserslautern, they raced up field and eventually Marcel Gaus cut inside, only to see his effort skim the post.

Despite an impressive start it soon went all wrong for Kaiserslautern. In the twentieth minute Bobby Wood was through on goal, however he was denied after Tobias Sippel raced outside his area to save with his hands, despite his protests he was given his marching orders. Alexander Ring, who started the game brightly was sacrificed and on came Marius Müller to replace Sippel between the sticks.

1860 Munich didn't waste any time in making their one-man advantage count, just six minutes later Rubin Rafael Okotie picked up the ball from Julian Weigl, he then managed to get some space with some nice footwork before firing a shot at goal. Okotie's shot was heading into Müller's arms, but that wasn't to be as it quickly deflected off Dominique Heintz and in.

Seven minutes after opening the scoring 1860 doubled their lead. The impressive Wood shined in the first half and he played a heavy part in the second, his superb cross perfectly found Okotie unmarked at the back post and the Austrian gratefully finished for his second goal for his new club.

HT: Kaiserslautern 0-2 1860 Munich.

Kaiserslautern were excellent throughout the second half, 1860 Munich stepped off the gas and they were punished. An early warning came through Matmour, Gaus played the ball across the box and the incoming Matmour somehow fired his chance well over from four yards out. Certainly a hands in head moment for the winger, however his miss was soon forgotten when the home side were awarded a penalty. Jean Zimmer was pulled down in the area by Vallori and although 1860 protested the decision, Bastian Dankert waved them away. Srđan Lakić calmly stepped up and slotted the spot kick home, putting his side back into the game. Just three minutes later the Kaiserslautern fans went wild, Chris Löwe's cross was superbly headed past Gábor Király and the comeback was complete.

With ten minutes remaining Kaiserslautern brought on Philipp Hofmann for his competitive debut and this proved to be the perfect substitution. Kevin Stöger delivered a corner into the box and this saw Hofmann raced into the six yard box to head in before the ball landed into Király's gloves. The scenes were wild nine minutes earlier, but after a Hofmann's first touch the roof was blown off the Fritz-Walter-Stadion. The game wasn't over and Hofmann should've grabbed a fourth for Kaiserslautern, a quick counter attack saw him all on his own in the box, however Király was able to deny him.

FT: Kaiserslautern 3-2 1860 Munich.
