Hamburg have completed the signing of Nicolai Muller from fellow Bundesliga club Mainz for a fee of €4.5m. Muller has signed a four-year contract with Bundesliga's only ever-present side until 2018 having successfully completed a medical. He will wear the number 27 shirt for the Northerners.

Muller arrived at Mainz in 2011, following a five-year spell with Greuther Furth, where he made 76 appearances, scoring 14 goals (he also had a season-long loan at Sandhausen during that time). Muller made 26 appearances for Mainz last season, scoring 9 goals, with all but one of them coming in the Hindrunde. His final appearance for the 05'ers ironically came against his new club, a 3-2 victory on the final day of last season.

In total, Muller made 90 appearances for Mainz during his three-year spell at the club, scoring 23 goals and making 14 assists. He leaves the Coface Arena having helped Mainz to a 7th placed finish in 2013/14, which therefore resulted in a place in this season's Europa League. Muller has also been called up for the German national side on two occassions, making his debut back in May 2013, when he replaced Lukas Podolski in a 4-2 friendly victory against Ecuador. Muller becomes Hamburg's 7th signing of the summer.

Nicolai Muller: "it was clear two, three weeks ago that I would change. Hamburg is still a big club. I wasn't afraid because Hamburg have not been doing well. Now you have to look forward. I've heard you must train extremely hard here at Hamburg, but I'm also physically fit. I like to contribute with goals and assists, because both are very important."
