Mats Hummels is Borussia Dortmund's new captain replacing Sebastian Kehl after the veteran took over the captaincy in 2008.

Dortmund's official twitter handle @BVB broke the news in light of their friendly defeat to Liverpool today. Fan favourite Marco Reus will become a vice captain as will goalkeeper Roman Weidenfeller

The tweet read: "@matshummels is new captain, @woodyinho ( Marco Reus ) and Weidenfeller are deputies.

The defender, who has been at Dortmund permanently since 2009 signing from arch-rivals Bayern Munich's, leadership qualities are known to everyone and arguably unrivalled by any other teammate.

Dortmund will hope announcing Hummels as captain will deter the ever growing interest in the defender and send out even bigger signals about how adamant they are to let him leave.
