Baba Rahman has joined top-flight club FC Augsburg just a day after the defender scored a brace in Greuther Fürth's 5-1 derby win over FC Nürnberg.

At just 20, the full-back already has experience in the Bundesliga, after signing for Greuther Fürth during their stint in the top division in 2012.

The Ghanaian joined Fürth from Asante Kotoko SC and following two-years at the Bavarian club, the defender will move just 150km South to Augsburg.

"The transfer of Baba is very important not only for him, but also for many people in his home country," explained Fürth president Helmut Hack. "He want to play in all circumstances in the Bundesliga.

"We have fought a long solution for Baba. We wish him all for his future by heart."

Baba has caught the eye from a number of Bundesliga clubs, but Augsburg manager Merkus Weinzierl has been a long time admirer of the Ghanian, after having a previous bid of €4 million turned down.

Kicker reported that the Baba will receive a contract at Augsburg for four or five years, following the departure of left-back Matthias Ostrzolek to Hamburg.

Baba's main competition will be Canadian defender, Marcel de Jong who has been at the club since 2010, making 67 appearances for Augsburg.

Although captain of Ghana's under-20 team, Baba is yet to make his first international appearance for the Black Stars.
