Hamburger SV have confirmed their interest in bringing Tottenham Hotspurs midfielder, Lewis Holtby back to the Bundesliga. The Tottenham midfielder has fallen down the pecking order at White Heart Lane and Hamburg Sporting director, Dietmar Beiersdorfer has confirmed the club are looking at the German.

Holtby left the Bundesliga in 2013 having spent his whole career in Germany, representing four sides, most notably Schalke and Mainz.

Beiersdorfer is quoted by Hamburger Abendblatt as saying: “I’d be lying if I said we have nothing to do with Holtby.”

Holtby spent the second half of last season on loan at Fulham but was unable to stop the Cottagers being relegated in his thirteen games there where he scored once.

His agent said: “He is happy at Tottenham and has a good feeling there. He wants to stay and prove himself and be part of the team.”

Coming off the back of a terrible season, Hamburg are still looking to improve the side having lost key asset Hakan Calhanoglu to Leverkusen during the summer. Valon Behrami, Matthias Ostrzolek and Nicolai Muller are just a few to have joined the Imtech arena outfit.
