On the final day of the 2014 summer transfer window; after looking like he was staying put surprisingly, Julian Green joined Hamburg SV on a season-long loan. The 19-year old who is contracted at Bayern until 2017, has told press that he listened to advice from club manager Pep Guardiola and also his USA National team manager Jurgen Klinsmann before making the switch. Speaking to fcbbayernmunich.com he talked about the suddenness of the move, his decision making behind it, and why it is going to be significant in his development as a player.

Green admitted that he received the offer from HSV and had just the weekend to think about it, which proved difficult in such a short space of time. "I received the offer last week, and had to make the decision over the weekend. It is not easy when the decision may effect my future and career". From Bayern's extremely talented roster, game time would have proved a rareity, and therefore gaining significant game time in the Bundesliga is hardly an offer Green could refuse at HSV. "I feel like it was the right decision, I want to keep getting better and better and therefore I need playing time on a higher level."

HSV will sure present a different kind of challenge for Green, as the club remain the only club since the Bundesliga's formation in 1963, to maintain it's top flight status and last season they came dangerously close to losing that accolade. "HSV is a top club and I am very happy about their interest and trust they have shown in me. I hope to get as much time on the pitch and I am going to give everything on the training field. I want to showcase my potential and help the team as best as I can".

Green also confessed that he spoke to Guardiola and Klinsmann before making his decision, saying that it was the best solution for all parties. "I talked to everybody, the club, the coach, the team, and we all agreed the game time was the most important thing here, and that is why they all supported my decision to join HSV. Jürgen Klinsmann was particularly supported of my move because his philosophy with the USA national team is that he wants every player to be playing maximal minutes for their clubs, and at the moment, this is not something Bayern Munich can offer me, more playing time will help me progress more as a player".

For the time being Green's focus lies elsewhere, Prague to be precise, where he is to face Czech Republic with his national side, USA. "At the moment my focus lies elsewhere, and I want to concentrate on my game with the national team tomorrow. This is not to say I'm not thinking about Hamburg, at the end of the week I will plan my move to HSV. I am looking forward to getting to know the club and the City, I'm curious aswell as excited!".
