US National Team winger/striker Julian Green is a man on a mission, having already played a part in a World Cup his aim is to now “get better and better” and at his current rate of growth it might not be long before we see him becoming a regular in the first-team at Bayern Munich.

It has always been clear, even after his impressive World Cup showing, that Green would not play a major role in Bayern’s team this season, in the attacking midfield area he has to compete alongside talents such as Thomas Müller, Arjen Robben and Franck Ribéry as well as others, and in the strikers department he has one of the World’s Best strikers in front of him in Robert Lewandowski as well as the experienced Claudio Pizarro. Green himself has said, “I talked with the club, the coach and the team. Everybody agreed that playing time is the most important thing, and that’s why they all supported my decision.”

If you’re wondering what his chances of first-team action at Hamburg will be like then you only have to look at the fact that they have lost both of their opening games in this new season and in both those games one of the wingers was Tolgay Arslan who is a central midfielder by trade and had to be brought off at half-time in the humiliating 3-0 loss at home to Bundesliga new boys SC Paderborn.

So it’s clear that Green will get more playing time at HSV then he would’ve at Bayern, if he doesn’t then serious questions will need to be asked of Hamburg coach Mirko Slomka, and this move should be beneficial to the player’s long term future as he currently has no Bundesliga experience. He will certainly be under pressure to deliver at Hamburg as they look like they will struggle again this year after a horrendous season last time around and are currently in the middle of a rebuild.

His national team coach Jürgen Klinsmann also appears to be pleased with the move, as Green has been quoted as saying: “Jürgen Klinsmann is happy about this move as well because he wants every member of the national team to gain experience and get a chance to develop.” So to sum up everyone seems happy with the move and it looks like it will benefit all parties and most importantly Green himself.
