Both clubs coming into today’s match had been in fairly poor form has the visitors, Werder Bremen, had drawn all three matches to start the season while Augsburg won just once while losing the other two. But it was Augsburg who looked the most likely to get the three points early on as it looked like they were getting the majority of the opportunities. It didn’t take long for the goals to fly in as the visitors took lead in the third minute through Davie Selke after a wonderful team move which deserved to find its way into the back of the net.

It was a costless-flowing attacking game in the first forty-five minutes as Werder Bremen started to get settled in, you could see that they looked like they had more a bit more attacking intent in them than in the beginning of the match. Halil Altintop found Daniel Baier beautifully as the midfielder got the ball behind Wolf as Augsburg leveled the match. Fin Bartels had a look at goal in the 25th minute of play but his effort was parried away by Marwin Hitz. Fin Bartels, however, gave away a penalty right before the break which the Augsburg captain, Paul Verhaegh converted excellently with his right foot.

In the 56th minute of play Werder Bremen got the penalty; then Franco Di Santo stepped up to the spot and rocketed his effort into the roof of the goal to level the match once more. It looked as though this would be the final score though Augsburg were pushing to get all three points. Caiuby hit the post with a well struck hit and in the same attacking sequence Tobias Werner was finally able to give Augsburg the 3-2 lead.

With just thirteen minutes left to go in the match as he dove low to head home the ball. Werder Bremen just could not do anything creative to get down the field as Augsburg were playing excellent defense and deserved all three points today. Tim Matavz added a very late fourth as Augsburg got their second win in a row, heaping pressure on a winless Werder Bremen who suffered their first defeat of the season.
