German World Cup winner Franz Beckenbauer believes that there is much more to Borussia Dortmund than Marco Reus, and that they could recover should they lose their star player this summer.

Reus, 25, has been heavily linked with rivals Bayern Munich - where former BVB stars Mario Gotze and Robert Lewandowski have exited in previous seasons - and will be available for just €25million this summer due to a release clause in his contract.

Der Kaiser believes that although Klopp's side would feel the loss, it would not take long for them to recover.

"Would Reus' departure be the end of Dortmund's ambitions? There's more to  Dortmund than just Reus," said Beckenbauer to TZ.

"They still have plenty of other great players, although Reus is obviously an important player for Dortmund."

Talks regarding a new contract have been put on hold after Dortmund's poor start to the season, with Reus' current contract due to run until June 2017.

The German international has been instrumental this season, notching up five goals in 10 appearances so far, and Dortmund will not be confident of keeping the fans' favourite should they fail to qualify for the Champions League next season.

That is an aim that looks a long way away at the moment, with Klopp's side in 15th place collecting just three points from the last 18 available.
