Eintracht Frankfurt welcomed Borussia Dortmund to the Commerzbank Arena for the final encounter of Matchday 13. In the same fixture last year, Dortmund ran out 2-1 victors; Henrikh Mkhitaryan scoring a brace either side of Václav Kadlec equaliser.

After last weeks surprise victory away to Borussia Mönchengladbach, Eintracht boss Thomas Schaaf fielded the exact same eleven that defeated the Die Fohlenelf. Marc Stendera once again started for Die Adler as the youngster looks to cement his place in the starting eleven; the 18 year old has won many plaudits so far this campaign. Brazilian defender, Bamba Anderson overcame a slight injury to feature in the match.

For Jürgen Klopp and Borussia Dortmund there were 2 changes to the side that surrendered a two goal lead at Paderborn last weekend. The injured, Marco Reus and İlkay Gündoğan made way for Sebastian Kehl and Kevin Großkreutz. Die Schwarzgelben were also in action in midweek, as they were defeated away 2-0 to Arsenal. Mats Hummels was once again out for Dortmund, as he couldn't overcome the ankle injury he sustained away to Bayern Munich.

The game started brilliantly for Eintracht as they took the lead in the 5th minute, as Alex Meier, the Bundesliga's top scorer beat Roman Weidenfeller. A Dortmund attack was intercepted by Marco Russ; the defenders clearance found Meier who found himself one-on-one with the experienced Dortmund 'keeper, but the Eintracht man made no mistake as he slotted past the on rushing Weidenfeller. That takes his goal tally to 8 for the season.

It was real lively start to the game and the visitors would go close to levelling just moments after they had fallen behind. Summer signing, Shinji Kagawa found himself in acres of space as he ran towards the Eintracht defence. The Japanese international picked out Henrikh Mkhitaryan whose eventual shot was well saved by stand in 'keeper, Felix Wiedwald in the absence of Kevin Trapp.

It was a game of many chances and Dortmund would go close again in the 24th minute. Wiedwald once again saved well from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, the rebound was lashed towards goal by Kevin Großkreutz; but unfortunately for Die Schwarzgelben only the woodwork would prevent them from equalising.

The second half would begin in the same fashion as the first; once again Eintracht Frankfurt started the better and would nearly double their lead through a deflected Marc Stendera effort.

A typical Borussia Dortmund counter attack was led by Aubameyang, after a great tackle by Kagawa, the Gabon international's pace allowed him to race clear of the Eintracht midfield. Aubameyang found substitute, Adrián Ramos whose effort was once again saved by Wiedwald; who was proving to be in fine form.

It was proving to be an end-to-end game with chances coming at either end thick and fast; Dortmund at this point marginally on top. Anderson Bamba in the Frankfurt was proving to be a real stalwart, denying the Dortmund attackers on numerous occasions.

Alex Meier was troubling the Dortmund defence at every opportunity, but somehow the veteran Eintracht attacker didn't double his sides lead in the 66th minute. Stefan Aigner crossed the ball to the head of an unmarked Meier, who somehow managed to put wide; a real let off for Dortmund.

Meier, however wouldn't regret the miss as in the 78th minute Eintracht would double their lead in comical signing. A long ount forward, from that man Meier, seemed to be heading for nothing; until Matthias Ginter headed past his on-rushing 'keeper, leaving Haris Seferovic with an open goal. The Swiss striker getting his first goal since the end of September; another defeat seemed to be looming for Klopp and Dortmund.

Just as in the first half, when Wiedwald saved from Mkhitaryan, Dortmund would again trouble just after conceding; this time Wieldwald saving well from a Gündoğan costless-kick.

But nothing was to come for Dortmund as they slumped to their 8th defeat of the Bundesliga season, something that makes depressing reading for all connected with Die Schwarzgelben. They now sit adrift of the rest at the foot of the Bundesliga table, 1 point away from the nearest side in Hamburg. Next up for Jürgen Klopp's side is a home game against Hoffenheim next Friday.

For Thomas Schaaf and Eintracht Frankfurt it was a great performance and win, that see's them rise up to 9th in the table; overtaking Paderborn and Mainz. Next up for Die Adler is a home match against Werder Bremen next Sunday.
