Robin Dutt has been named as Sporting Director for Bundesliga strugglers VfB Stuttgart after they reached an agreement with former club, Werder Bremen over the termination of his contract with them.

The former Freiburg coach was relieved of his duties at Bremen earlier in the season, despite having 18 months left on his contract.

Dutt, 49, previously held a similar position with the German Football Association (DFB) after having coached both Freiburg and Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga.

He gave up his role at the DFB to take charge of Bremen in 2013. However, following his poor start to the 2014-15 season the German and Bremen departed ways.

The move to Stuttgart as Sporting Director was announced this afternoon in a press conference.

Stuttgart president, Bernd Wahler told reporters: “Robin Dutt has convinced us in talks by his approach of consent.

“I am convinced that Robin Dutt is the right solution for the position of Sporting Director.”

Dutt added: “I am looking forward to the task at Stuttgart.

“The club is in the constantly changing environment of the Bundesliga, whilst facing great challenges.

“In the short term we will do our utmost to ensure a successful battle against relegation. We have with Huub Stevens a skilled person in football and has seen it all known exactly what it is now.”
