It seems that Josip Drmić has already made his mind up regarding a move to HSV, with rumours circulating the world of social media that he is willing a move to the Hanseatic club. However, just as it seemed a lost cause with Leverkusen’s endless search for a replacement, they may have a man in mind after all, so the deal may be able to go through.

Hamburg’s director of football Peter Knäbel remained hopeful that Drmić will be turning out for the Rothosen come the end of the month.

"We have not written him off," said Knäbel in a press conference on Monday at the training camp in Dubai: "We have done with him so far what we could have done. But it must also fit with his employer.”

Clearly, then, the ball is in Bayer’s court. If the rumours are true, and Drmić is indeed set on leaving, then it might be in the best interests of Leverkusen to let him go, but it is understandable why they would be looking for a replacement first.

The man they are after appears to be Tottenham forward Roberto Soldado. Signed for £26million in from Valencia in August 2013, Soldado is regarded as one of the biggest ‘flops’ in Spurs’ transfer history. He has scored seven goals in 36 appearances for the club, and his style of play clearly hasn't fit as well with the systems of Sherwood and Pochettino as he would have liked. In all of this may come a fresh start for a player who so desperately needs it, and ultimately it could be the perfect fit for the Spaniard.

What this means for Drmić is positive news for HSV, as they may finally get the man Knäbel and Zinnbauer have been after for some time. The Hamburger Morgenpost reported this morning that the Swiss forward has asked Leverkusen to let him leave for Hamburg, and that personal terms between the player and the club have been agreed, and Peter Knäbel has confirmed this since in a press.

The Express has reported today however that Spurs are seeking a swap deal between Drmić and Soldado, something that would certainly put the proverbial cat amongst the pigeons.

The likelihood of this happening remains to be seen, but it may be tough for Bayer and indeed Tottenham to convince Josip to change his plans. There has been the discussion of a Soldado move triggering a series of moves, namely Drmić to HSV, then Berahino to Spurs as a replacement in a swap deal for wingers Aaron Lennon and Andros Townsend.

Again, it is currently rumours and speculation, but events seem to be sliding along now to the extent where something most give. Drmić has put pressure on Leverkusen in many ways by revealing his desire to leave for the northern club, but Bayer can not be surprised given his lack of match action. As the situation continues to unravel, it seems for now that Drmić has his heart set on Hamburg.
