The German midfielder is set to enter negotiations over a new contract with Borussia Dortmund.

Ilkay Gündogan's current contract expires in 2016 and the club are keen to tie him down to a longer deal.

CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke has revealed the Bundesliga side are ready to open contract talks with Gündogan.

"Michael Zorc (Dortmund's Sporting Director) will certainly look into a potential renewal for Gündogan in the next few weeks," said Watzke.

Dortmund have already managed to agree a new contract with Marco Reus which runs until 2019. Reus was at the centre of transfer speculation.

So should Gündogan sign a new deal, it will be another massive boost to the club currently struggling in the Bundesliga.

According to Bild, the club and the player's representatives are set to meet following the first leg of the Champions League clash with Juventus.

There has been interest in Gündogan before his long term injury, but should both parties agree a new deal, it will deter any interest in the short term.

Gündogan, who arrived from Nurnburg in 2011, missed the majority of last season and has currently made 11 appearances so far this season.
