In 2. Bundesliga action on Sunday evening, Nürnberg defeated Fortuna Düsseldorf after falling behind in the second half, but would eventually win by a 1-3 score at the ESPRIT arena.

The first half of play was certainly not the best, and both clubs probably know they could have played a lot better. Fortuna and Nurnberg attacked, but once they got in and around the 18 yard box, their quality turned for the worse and nothing really troubled the two goal keepers. This was evident in the 14th minute of play as Julian Schuarte had a goal from close range, but the ball fell straight into the hands of Peter Rakovsky.

After the halftime interval, the home side looked to have more about them as Charlison Benschop looked dangerous and was imposing himself on the Nürnberg defense. It would be the substitute Joel Pohjanplo would find the back of the net following a corner. The corner was sent in by Da Silva Pinto and Bruno Soares found the young Finnish striker, who buried it into the back of the net. However, that would be all the joy for Düsseldorf as the visitors would score the final three goals of the match.

Nürnberg got their equalizer just four minutes later and it was through another young footballer, Niklas Start, who plays on the German U19 team. The 19 year old did well get himself into a bit of space and he placed the shot perfectly into the bottom corner of the goal.

This goal gave the visitors a bit of momentum as they continued to pressure Düsseldorf's Danny Blum got the go ahead goal just six minutes later after Jakub Sylvester found the goal scorer with excellent vision. The third and final goal for Der Altmeister came with just two minutes left to go in regular time and Sebastian Kerk, who came on seconds before, was rewarded for being in the right spot at the right time.

This victory for Nürnberg sees them jump ahead of today’s hosts and have a one point cushion, as they now sit in the sixth position in the 2. Bundesliga table.
