1860 Munich made the relatively short journey from the Bavarian capital to take on FC Ingolstadt at the Audi Sportpark, in the Bavarian derby. The reverse fixture earlier in the season at the Allianz Arena resulted in a 1:1 draw between the two sides.

Ralph Hasenhüttl's starting eleven included Winter signing Thomas Pledl; who was recruited from Greuther Fürth. Almog Cohen was also included in the matchday squad; the Israeli having suffered numerous injuries since joining from FC Nürnberg. New 1860 boss, Torsten Fröhling has rejuvenated Munich's second club, the stand-out result being a 2-1 victory over relegation threatened St. Pauli. Top scorer, Rubin Okotie was partnered with Daniel Adlung, Marius Wolf and Jannick Bandowski in the attack.

The league leaders started the game in the better fashion, going close through Benjamin Hübner and Moritz Hartmann on two occasions. Die Löwen were camped in their own half and were seldom offering a threat to Ramazan Özcan in die Schanzer's goal.

The pressure eventually told four minutes from the break when Danilo Soares fired the hosts into the lead. The Brazilian fullback unleashing an effort from 18 yards out that beat Vitus Eicher with the aid of a deflection.

Okotie was replaced with Valdet Rama at the half time interval; the Austrian having offered little for Die Löwen. A brave decision by Fröhling to haul off the clubs top scorer.

Die Schanzer continued to push throughout the second half and would go close through Australian star, Matthew Leckie; but this time Eicher did well to keep the deficit at one. Moving into the final ten minutes and seemingly out of nowhere the visitors grabbed an unlikely equaliser. Left sides Jannick Bandowski, on loan from Borussia Dortmund beating Özcan to get his second goal in three games.

FC Ingolstadt pushed for a winner late on and nearly got one when Leckie let loose a goal-bound strike, but die Löwen captain Kai Bülow was at hand to clear the ball off the line.

That's how it would end at the Audi Sportpark - Torsten Fröhling  and 1860 Munich the much happier with the point. For Bundesliga hopefuls FC Ingolstadt it's the case of some mopre dropped points, as the chasing pack close in. Lapses in defensive concentration once again stifling Ralph Hasenhüttl's side. Next up for Die Schanzer is a trip to Erzgebirge Aue, whilst 1860 Munich play hosts to SV Sandhausen.
