A brilliantly professional display from Juventus secured their passage into the last eight of the UEFA Champions League, with Carlos Tevez's thunderous early strike catching Roman Weidenfeller off guard and setting the tone for his game. He proved the assist for Alvaro Morata to kill off the tie at just the right time and was able to add a late third, in what was a deserved win for the visitors.

Dortmund made three changes to the side that fell to defeat in Turin a fortnight ago. Nuri Sahin and Lukas Piszczek both picked up injuries in a less-than-stellar run in the league, while Ciro Immobile dropped to the bench. Neven Subotic, Sven Bender and Kevin Kampl, respectively, took their places in the starting eleven.

Juventus, who had picked up wins against Atalanta, Sassuolo and Palermo and drawn with nearest challengers AS Roma, opened up an enormous fourteen point gap from their capital club rivals between the first and second legs. They were forced into one change, as an injured Andrea Pirlo was replaced by Roberto Pereyra.

The atmosphere was white hot and the spectacular display from the Südtribüne, in reference to the famous 1997 victory, further added to the pomp and circumstance surrounding the special clash.

Despite the performance from the BVB fans, it was Juventus who took the game by the scruff of the neck and opening the scoring after just three minutes. Carlos Tevez picked up Patrice Evra's pass, around twenty-five yards from goal, and unleashed a rasping drive that shot past Roman Weidenfeller and into the top corner. Though the Argentine's strike was rather special, the Dortmund stopper was slow to react and may feel he could have done better at his near post.

The hosts were doing their utmost to find a quick response, now that they required two goals to send the game to extra-time, but were halted by a very resolute and compact Massimiliano Allegri side.

Stephan Lichtsteiner tried his luck from range and almost produced a similarly stunning goal, this time Weidenfeller was able to push it over the bar to safety. To his credit, the veteran custodian dealt with the resulting corner well and BVB were able to clear the danger.

The Westphalians were unusually quiet and were struggling to even test Gianluigi Buffon. Marco Reus had netted five goals and added an assist in his last four Champions League games but couldn't make two excellent set-piece chances count either, in what was a slightly frustrating beginning for Jürgen Klopp and co.

However lady luck had seemingly shone yellow midway through the half, as Paul Pogba had to limp off with a hamstring problem. He was replaced by Andrea Barzagli and that forced Juve to shuffle their pack; something that Allegri wouldn't have been best pleased about.

Dortmund continued to apply pressure in the closing stages of the half, though it was without any success. In truth, there were few major chances that fell after Tevez's rocket of an opener and BVB didn't look like they could break down the Italian champions' back-line.

In an attempt to chance their fortunes, Oliver Kirch was brought on for Marcel Schmelzer at half-time. That substitute mattered little when Tevez threaded through Alvaro Morata, with the entire Dortmund defence astray. The Spaniard went one-on-one with Weidenfeller, but he pulled off a vital save to keep his side in the tie.

The BVB 'keeper was called into action once more, as Morata was again denied by Weidenfeller. This time Pereyra supplied the through ball and Weidenfeller turned the ball away with his feet, with the Turin side's pressure unrelenting.

It wasn't until the sixty-third minute until the hosts' had a meaningful attempt on goal and even then it was simple for Buffon. Kampl struck a powerful drive from twenty-yards out and it was comfortably dealt with by the former World Cup winner.

A deflected drive from Subotic very nearly caught out Buffon, only for it to skid just wide of the post. Dortmund's defence then proved to be the downfall, just as they were building up a head of steam, as Juve sealed the victory.

Tevez turned provider for Morata, unselfishly setting up his team-mate after a chipped through ball caught the BVB back-line off guard, who slotted into an attempt net. The Spaniard couldn't miss his third attempt of the evening and the two scorers from the first leg had completed the same feat once more.

The Argentine wasn't done there and he emphatically finished off Arturo Vidal's pass. Yet again there was little help for Weidenfeller and Tevez blasted past him to add icing on top of the cake. The Old Lady played out the remainder with the efficiency one would expect from a side three goals up and deservedly went through.

Dortmund will now have to pick themselves up for a trip to Hannover, which is especially important if they want to keep pressure up on the top six. Allegri's side march on to challenge on all three fronts, with a home game against Genoa to look forward to this weekend.

The result meant that Juve qualified alongside FC Barcelona, to complete the line-up for the Champions League last eight. The quarter-final draw for it and the Europa League will take place around noon on Friday. Perhaps crucially, all five of the possible players that could've picked up yellow cards leading to suspension in the quarter-final first leg avoided one; another boost for the Italians, who'll fancy their chances of making a mark in this year's competition.
