Borussia Mönchengladbach have extended the contract of winger Patrick Herrmann until 2019.

Both parties are delighted with with the new deal, with Gladbach's sporting director, Max Eberl saying: "We're delighted that we've been able to tie Patrick down here and that he wants to continue with us along the successful path we're following,"

"Patrick has developed from a youth player to a Bundesliga player with us and we're pleased that he wants to take the next step in his career here."

Herrmann, 24, has had an impressive season so far, scoring 13 goals and adding four assists in 37 games for the side this season. "I really enjoy playing for Borussia and I feel the club and the bosses have faith in me," said the German midfielder.

"We've got great fans and a unique stadium. I feel at home here and these are things I need to be able to progress in my career, including returning to the national team."

"I still have some big goals with Borussia. Our games this season in the Europa League gave us a taste for more, and I'd like to be successful with the club at home and in Europe,"

Herrmann arrived in Mönchengladbach in 2008 from 1. FC Saarbrücken.

This deal adds to the good news for Lucien Favre's side after last week's announcement that they will sign Hannover 96 midfielder Lars Stindl. Favre has also signed Thorgan Hazard on a permanent deal following his loan from Chelsea.

The Foals currently sit third in the Bundesliga, two points ahead of fourth placed Bayer Leverkusen.
