Hannover have sacked manager Tayfun Korkut, terminating the coach's contract with immediate effect, according to DW Sports and various other German media.

With zero wins to Hannover's name since the turn of the year, Korkut was growing under increasing pressure from the board and today's 4-0 thrashing from Leverkusen seems to have proven the last straw.

Hannover currently fifteenth place in the Bundesliga and are just three points off the automatic relegation places with twenty-nine points.

Despite three wins in their first five, against Schalke, fellow strugglers Hamburg and Köln, the club's form went downhill as they lost eight of the remaining thirteen in the Hinrunde.

Forty-one year old Turkish national Korkut took over at the HDI Arena in December 2013 replacing Mirko Slomka, who was in his second spell in charge of die Roten.

According to HAZ, it is expected that Slomka will be appointed for the third time as early as the start of the week.

Hannover host European hopefuls Hoffenheim next weekend and still face tricky fixtures against Wolfsburg and Augsburg in the run in.
