Syker Kreiszeitung say that Werder Bremen's sporting director Rouwen Schröder and team manager Thomas Eichin were watching Peniel Mlapa and Niklas Stark during St. Pauli's 1-0 win over 1. FC Nürnberg.

The pair haven't been in stellar form this season for der Club but have shown promise. Stark in particular would be a major coup for Bremen, as he led Germany's under-19 squad to European Championship glory last summer.

Mlapa too was a highly sought-after youngster at Hoffenheim but has failed to show that since moving to Borussia Mönchengladbach, his loan move to Nürnberg has also done little to change that.

Should the rumours be true Mlapa would replace Davie Selke, who will join RB Leipzig this summer for €8millon. Stark would reinforce a very solid Bremen midfield, which has been a stable base for the team to build off of this season. Whether he would start ahead of the Cedric Makiadi's and Felix Kroos' remains to be seen, but he would be a valuable acquisition nevertheless.
