Aided by an own goal in the 89th minute, Schalke stole a 3-2 victory at home against a desperate Stuttgart side as relegation is looming ever closer.

Klaas-Jan Hunterlaar ended his goal drought of nearly 1200 minutes in the ninth minute of today's game. Sané chipped a ball over the top that took a deflection and fell straight to the Dutch striker. Hunterlaar knew what he needed to do and put the ball into the back of the net to give Schalke an early 1-0 lead. Schalke's lead would be gone shortly after, however, as Stuttgart would get their equalizer eleven minutes later. Schwaab played a nice ball over the top towards Ginczek, the striker played a wonderful through ball to Harnik who cheekily chipped his shot over Fährmann.

Six minutes after the restart, Stuttgart would get a surprising lead as Kostic found the back of the net. Matip lossed the ball easily and the visitors quickly broke into a counter. Ginczek provided another clinical pass and Kostic made no mistake in his finish with his effort finding the bottom right hand corner of the goal. After not scoring a goal in nearly 1200 minutes, Hunterlaar would score his second of the game in the 78th minute. Boaten provided a clinical cross where the Schalke front man headed home with great precision.

It looked like Stuttgart was going to get a much needed point. Unfortunately, that was not the case as they would give up an own goal in the last minute of normal time. Aogo crossed in from the left hand side of the pitch where it was met by the head of Boateng. The header took a big deflection off of Klein and Ulreich could not do anything to keep the ball from going into the net.
