At the Voith-Arena, Heidenheim ran out to a 3-0 victory. SpVgg Greuther Fürth really needed this victory because this loss puts them in desperation mode as they try to stay in the 2. Bundesliga. Fortunately, they can still turn things around as there are two more matches remaining in the season.

The first Heidenheim goal came in the 25th minute of the match after Greuther Fürth failed to clear their lines properly. The ball originially fell to Robert Zulj but his clearence went to Tim Göhlert who rifled his shot into the back of the net.

There was just three minutes left to go until halftime when the hosts struck again to double their lead, this time through Philip Heise. The goal scorer won the ball off of Schnatterer and was left all alone with plenty of room. Heise made absolutely no mistake thanks in part to the lack of pressure and the time to shoot.

It was not long after the restart when Heidenheim would be able to get their third goal of the evening and seal the victory. Robert Leipertz had a clean break inside the box which forced Zulj to make an emergency tackle; Zulj was also sent off as a result for yellow card accumulation. However, he miss timed his attempt and the referee awared the penalty. Marc Schnatterer lined up to take the kick from the spot and burried the ball behind Hesl.

After Zulj was sent off, the match really died down significantly. Fürth were unable to win much of the ball as they were down to ten men and Heidenheim passed the ball from side to side waiting for the full time whistle. In the 79th minute of the match, however, Griesbeck had a good look at goal but his header was hit staright at Hesl in what would be the last good chance of the match.
