The St. Pauli faithful left the Millerntor-Stadion in a jubilant mood as they saw their club clobber VfL Bochum a by 5 goals to 1.

St. Pauli fell behind early in this match as Michael Gregoritsch scored a goal in just the fourth minute of play. Piotr Cwielong was fouled in the build-up as the ref played the advantage. Simon Terode battled with Lasse Sobiech in the air with the former winning the battle. Terode's header fell to Cwielong who proceeded to put the ball in behind the goal keeper.

Bochum's lead lasted just around a half an hour with Lennart Thy scoring the first of two goals thirty minutes later. The visitors were very sloppy inside their own area and Halstenberg played a lovely back heel to Thy and finished the move off to perfection. Halstenberg would then give his side the lead for the first time right before halftime. This time around, the 23-year-old Thy headed the ball to Halstenberg and the finish was simply superby as he blasted the ball into the top left corner.

It took just four minutes after the restart for St. Pauli to find their third goal of the afternoon and it came thanks to Christopher Butchmann. The ball was worked around a little before it found Butchmann who shot the ball past a desperate Luthe. Thy would get his second goal of the math a mere three minutes later as Bochum again were shaky at the back and the home striker was able to find a bit of space to score well.

The game seemed to settle down a tad as Bochum knew that they were essentially out of the match even though there was still plenty of time left. However, with seven minutes to go, Sobota would score his sides fifth goal of the match and gain three points that could allow St. Pauli to play another season in the 2. Bundesliga.
