Rumours of an MLS move as well as a return home for Hamburg's Rafael Van der Vaart have been rife in recent weeks and Turkish side Besiktas have now joined the race and are said to be keen on signing the midfielder, according to BILD.

Besiktas still have a game to play in the Turkish Süper Lig season but they have already secured third position and European football for next season which they could use to tempt the Dutchman to move to the Turkish capital, Istanbul.

The not long turned thirty-two-year-old is set to end his second stay at the Imtech Arena in seven years with his contract due to expire in the coming weeks. Van der Vaart's past two seasons have been plagued with niggling injuries but it didn't stop him from making twenty-four Bundesliga appearances last term.

The 109 time Dutch international's agent Robert Geerlings confirmed that an Ajax return wasn't on the cards for his client on Monday.

"Rafael isn't sure about his own future," Geerlings told Voetbal International. "Ajax have waited long enough now and we thought it was decent to inform Ajax about it. I expect that Ajax will switch to other options now. We can understand that."

According to Italian media, Serie A trio Genoa, Torino and Atalanta are all weighing up moves for the HSV captain. In March, MLS outfit Sporting Kansas City allegedly made Van der Vaart a lucrative $4.8 million-a-season offer before the deal fell through as the two parties failed to agree on some personal terms.

Van der Vaart's best years may well be behind him but he would still be an important player for a majority of sides across the globe.
