SV Sandhausen defender Lukas Kübler confirmed on Tuesday that he will join SC Freiburg for free, once his contract expires this summer.
The 22-year-old was a key member of the Sandhausen side that were able to avoid relegation this season, making an impressive 32 appearances in the process. Greuther Fürth and a host of other clubs had thrown their hat in the ring for Kübler, though he has opted for Freiburg.
"Lukas Kübler ios a defender that is strong in the tackle with lots of drive going forwards," said Sport Club's executive Jochen Saier. "Lukas has, in the past season, undertaken a really interesting development and we are excited that he has chosen to take the next step with us."
The former 1. FC Köln defender added: "Freiburg are known for successfully working with young players and developing them. Therefore, the Sport Club was the first option for me and I am looking forward to the challenge in Freiburg. "
