FC Ingolstadt 04 have confirmed the signing of defender Romain Brégerie from SV Darmstadt 98.

The French centre-half was a key player for the Lilies this season, scoring six times and setting up a further two goals. He missed just one game all season and was the rock at the heart of their defence.

Brégerie has signed a deal until 2018 with the 2. Bundesliga champions, who will also play in the Bundesliga with Darmstadt next season.

"After the fantastic year with SV Darmstadt I now look forward to the challenge in Ingolstadt. There I will take the next step in my development and try to help keep the club in the Bundesliga," said Brégerie.

Ingolstadt's sporting director, Thomas Linke, added: "Romain has played a great season and we are proud that the most prolific defender in the 2. Bundesliga will play the upcoming season with us."
