A goal in either half from Marc Stendera and a Kevin Akpoguma strike were enough to seal another victory for Germany in the FIFA under-20 World Cup.

Germany remained unchanged after a thumping win over Fiji, despite Frank Wormuth stating he was just 'content' with the 8-1 victory.

As for Uzbekistan, their coach, Ravshan Khaydarov, made the alter-ations after publicly admitting there were 'a lot of mistakes' in defen-ce. Sarvar KarimovMirjamol Kosimov and Kurshid Giyosov were all dropped, allowing Dilshod KhamraevRustamjon Ashurmatov and Ibrokim Abdullaev to take a place in the starting side.

The game started slowly, with Uzbekistan in no rush to close down the Germans until they entered their half. Marc Stendera and Levin Öztunali's moments of individual brilliance nearly provided openings, only for the resulting opportunity to be closed down.

Robert Bauer and hat-trick hero, Hany Mukhtar, both had efforts that threatened to trouble Khamraev - though both were easily dealt with. Germany's dominance wasn't translating to goals and they were finding it hard to get in behind the White Wolves' defence.

Finally, however, Germany's persistence paid off. Stendera's dead-ball skills came into play and it was his free-kick that broke the dead-lock. 25 yards out, the Eintracht Frankfurt youngster whipped the ball up and over the wall. Khamraev got a hand to the shot but it crept over the line, much to the delight of the diminutive play-maker.

That gave Stendera and his team-mates some impetus until half-time and they could easily have doubled their lead. Mukhtar unselfishly squared for Julian Brandt, though his cross was cut out in the nick of time. Niklas Stark also had a hopeful penalty appeal turned down, as Germany went into the break with a solitary one-goal advantage.

The second-half followed on from the end of the first, and Mukhtar could have struck once more. This time, the SL Benfica man had an effort blocked brilliantly by Abdullaev. Uzbekistan were gradually coming out of their shell, although that afforded the Germans even more spaces to attack.

Indeed that was the case when Kevin Akpoguma doubled their advantage, although he had to thank the opposition in part. The Hoffenheim man nicked the ball from Uzbekistan and drove towards goal, before drilling the ball into the bottom corner from the edge of the box. Khamraev, again, couldn't keep it out, despite getting a hand to it - though it was nothing less than Germany deserved.

Khamraev did make an important save to give his side some hope, though questions had to be asked of the defence in the build-up. Grischa Prömel danced round the back-line before setting up Öztunali but the Qizilqum stopper managed to push it behind.

There was still time for Germany to make it 3-0, with Stendera notching up his brace. He exchanged passes with Jeremy Dudziak, playing a neat one-two, before poking the ball in at the near post to seal another professional performance by the tournament favourites.

They now sit three points clear in Group F and will guarantee top spot with a draw against Honduras, although it would take a mathematic miracle for them to lose it now. Uzbekistan, however, need to handsomely beat Fiji to have any chance of qualifying for the last sixteen.
