SpVgg Greuther Fürth have announced the signing of Marcel Franke from Hallescher FC.

The 2. Bundesliga outfit confirmed Domi Kumbela's arrival yesterday, meaning Franke is their second acquisition this summer.

"Marcel is a young player who can develop and has already proven and demonstrated his class in the 3. Liga.

I am sure that he will enrich our team with his personality and footballing qualities," said director of football, Michael Mutzel.

The 22-year-old made 32 appearances for Halle last season, scoring four times and notching up a further two assists.

He will sign a three-year deal at with the Shamrocks, and only intensifies the competition at centre-back.

Benedikt Röcker, Marco Caligiuri, Zsolt Korcsmar, Stefan Thesker and Florian Mohr will now have to compete with the promising young defender.

Fürth are set to appoint Stefan Ruthenbeck as their new coach, after Mike Büskens announced he would not continue as the manager.

The club only just avoided relegation last season, with a dramatic last day fo results going their way to maintain their second division status.
