SV Darmstadt 98 have finally secured Fabian Holland on a permanent deal from Hertha BSC, the club confirmed on Sunday.

The 24-year-old Berlin-born defender spent last season on loan with Darmstadt, playing a huge part in their historic promotion.

He has signed a two-year deal at the Lilies and both teams agreed to stay silent in regards to the transfer fee.

Holland was in the Hertha ranks since 2003 and the move brings an end to a 12 year stint at the club.

The loan has helped him restart his career

Appearances were very limited in the capital. He played just 25 times for the first team, but last season's loan has given him a new lease of life.

Holland featured in 26 games in the 2. Bundesliga, scoring once. That goal proved to be crucial however, as it was the winner against FC St. Pauli - without it, Darmstadt would not have been promoted.

"Fabi was an important part of our promotion team, so we have fought very hard for his signature," said coach Dirk Schuster.

He admitted his happiness at the deal being completed, and is thankful that the focus can now be on "Darmstadt and the training camp".

Holland added, "I am very happy that, after the comings and goings of the past few weeks, a solution has now been found."

The defender thinks "it's the best decision" to stay in Darmstadt after "this sensational year". The 24-year-old also said he is "looking forward to the huge challenge" that lies ahead.

Rausch could join Holland at left-back

Along with Holland, Konstantin Rausch seems to be on the verge of completing a move to the Stadion am Böllenfalltor.

Another left-back, the VfB Stuttgart defender had just 75 minutes of game time last season - something he obviously isn't happy about.

It would be a cut price deal and Rausch comes with plenty of Bundesliga experience; a deal to benefit both clubs and the player.
