Talented teen Kinglsey Coman has joined Bayern Munich from Italian giants Juventus on a two-year loan deal. The arrangement between two of Europe's most decorated clubs means that the Bundesliga champions have the option to purchase him at the end of the period.
As to what the details of the contract - and the ins-and-outs of the buy-out clause - those are not yet known, although Juventus have confirmed that a €20m fee is likely to be close to the figure arranged; the Bavarians are also said to have paid €7m alone for his loan. The medical and contract were completed on Sunday and the Frenchman will wear the number 29 shirt.
The curious case of Coman
Widely recognised as one of the brightest talents in Europe, Coman began his career with Paris-Saint Germain in 2013 but never really got any game time for the capital club. Strangely, PSG decided not to renew his contract and that led to a huge fight to secure his services last summer. Juventus won the race, and have arguably got one of the best bargains in recent years.
Coman made 22 appearances in all competitions for the reigning Serie A champions, scoring one goal. Rumours had been rife for the last few weeks that Bayern and Pep Guardiola had stepped up their interest in the 19-year-old, before finally nabbing him with just a few days of the transfer window to go. It is unclear where he will play most of his football for Bayern, as he is versatile across the front four.
Coman and Sammer give their thoughts on the transfer
Speaking to Bayern Munich's club website, Coman said: "I’m looking forward to Munich and playing for FC Bayern." He is keen to "take the next step" in his career at the Allianz Arena and wants to "play [his] part" in the upcoming two years.
Matthias Sammer said that the club were "delighted" with his arrival and that their new starlet is a "quick, technically skilled and an attack-minded player". He concluded by adding, "Kingsley Coman is one of the biggest talents in European football."
