Kevin Volland was the star of the show as Hoffenheim left the WWK Arena with all three points against Augsburg.

The game began at a frantic pace and both teams were keen to get an early goal on the board. Unfortunately, for the hosts, they would fall behind within the opening exchanges for the second time this week.

Vargas and Volland finally hit things off

After some good work in the build-up from Eduardo Vargas, he set up Kevin Volland to shoot on goal. Ragnar Klavan and Konstantinos Stafylidis were powerless to prevent him from smashing the ball past Marwin Hitz at his near post in just the 10th minute.

It could have been even worse just a few minutes later when Vargas forced Hitz into a good save from the edge of the area. Then, finally, Augsburg came into the game. Alexander Esswein and Halil Altintop had shots go just past the post and bar, respectively, within a few attacks of each other.

Ja-Cheol Koo had an even better chance midway through the half, but couldn't convert with his head from close range. The South Korean perservered and got his reward. Hoffenheim failed to deal with Stafylidis' cross and Koo wouldn't miss a second time, heading home to level the game.

Second half double sees Hoffenheim home

The opening stages of the second half was, essentially, Oliver Baumann taking on Raul Bobadilla. The Argentine fired just wide and over the goal before forcing two great saves from the former-Freiburg stopper, who was proving to be a tough nut to crack.

His interventions proved vital in the end, as Kevin Volland notched up his and Hoffenheim's second of the game. Jeong-Ho Hong brought down the troublesome Vargas in the area and the German under-21 international duly converted to give his side lead.

Two become three, for Hoffenheim, just five minutes later. Volland turned from goalscorer to provider as he slipped Jonathan Schmid through on goal. The Frenchman remained calm in front of goal to slot past Hitz and seal all three points for the visitors, the first time they'd manage to win all season.
