It's being reported that the current Swiss champions, FC Basel, were subject to a €25 million bid for their 18-year-old striker, Breel Embolo, from Champions League outfit, VfL Wolfsburg. It's understood the St. Jakob-Park side outright rejected the offer.

The young striker has received widespread acclaim, since emerging through the FC Basel ranks last campaign; scoring on 17 occasions during 42 first team games and it is thought that various European clubs such as the aforementioned German side, Everton FC and Juventus FC.

The Cameroonian born striker was rewarded for his stunning breakthrough year, with a call up to the Switzerland National team for whom he made his debut in a 1-1 draw with the United States, in which Embolo came on for a current Bundesliga striker, Josip Drmic

The current Borussia Mönchengladbach striker has followed a path similar to the one Embolo would prospectively follow if he were to move to the Volkswagen Arena, having featured for FC Zürich before moving to 1. FC Nürnberg in 2013.

die Wölfe have already beaten the Italian Champions, Juventus to a transfer target this season with the signature of Julian Draxler on transfer deadline day after the former FC Schalke 04 midfielder was subject to heavy interest from the Turin based side. Dieter Hecking's side, however, are once again expected to move before Massimiliano Allegri's side in pursuit of Breel Embolo, after the Old Lady of Turin had scouts present to watch the FC Basel striker against fellow Serie A side, AC Fiorentina in the Europa League.

Striking options in Saxony

Despite Bas Dost's inspired form throughout 2015, die Wölfe have for a number of years since Mario Mandžukić left for FC Bayern Munich been without a top class striker and the prospect of the highly talented Swiss striker fielding for VfL Wolfsburg could spell and end to that accusation.

Dieter Hecking's side have endured a stuttering start to the season and currently sit in ninth place, their latest defeat coming at the hands of Borussia Mönchengladbach 2-0. Only Dost has more than a single goal (5) whilst highly anticipated summer signing, Max Kruse from the aforementioned 'Gladbach is still without a goal at the Volkswagen Arena.
