Bayern Munich director Franz Beckenbauer has said that the €40million purchase of Arturo Vidal from Juventus was a mistake.

This is not the first time that the German World Cup winner has directed criticism at Vidal, this previous case coming after a game against Olympiakos in the Champions League.

“Bayern do not need Vidal,” Beckenbauer told Sky Sports Germany.

“He is not fit, has played poorly, and should not take the field if he is not 100 per cent.”

He criticised Vidal for not being mobile enough after the match against Olympiakos, and the response came in the form of a wonderful goal in a 3-0 win over Darmstadt in the following Bundesliga game.

Rocky road so far

Arturo Vidal has had a turbulent start to his career in Germany.

Who could forget how he was in the headlines for the wrong reasons, when he was involved in a drink-driving scandal during the Copa America in his native Chile.

He showed up to Germany to begin the season in poor physical condition also, leading to many, including Beckenbauer, questionimg his commitment to the club.

Setting a bad example

Beckenbauer continued with some more harsh words, talking about how he told another member of the Bayern team not to follow the route that Vidal is going down.

“I told [Mario] Gotze not to follow his example.”

Beckenbauer must be put under the microscope for his apparent agenda to attack random players at random intervals.

Yesterday, the news came out that the director had told Pep Guardiola to hurry his decision as to his whereabouts next season, and that a club of Bayern's stature did not deserve to be kept waiting.

Although the team sits top of the league with eight wins from eight, it seems things are not so rosy in the Bayern camp after all.
