Last year's second-placed team in the Bundesliga, VfL Wolfsburg, won their second home game in the Champions League on matchday three against Dutch side PSV Eindhoven 2-0 after a poor first, but better second half.

The game started very slowly, as both teams were very insecure. Even though all group teams had three points before the games began, for both Eindhoven and Wolfsburg, this match had a decisive character as the other games against Manchester United and CSKA Moscow are not easy at all.

Poor first half

The 20000 fans who found their way to the Volkswagen Arena on Wednesday evening had to wait until the end of the first half for the first good opportunity. After a header by Bas Dost, Max Kruse reached the ball and shot towards Jeroen Zoet's goal, but the Eindhoven 'keeper comfortably stopped it.

Four minutes later, Adam Maher had a good opportunity after a cross from the left side, but his header just went wide. A few moments later, referee Alberto Undiano Mallenco from Spain blew the halftime whistle, leaving the fans impatient.

Goals in the second half

The game became much better in the second 45 minutes. Only a few moments into the second half, Wolfsburg scored the opener. After a long cross by Luiz Gustavo, Kruse played the ball to Joshua Guilavogui, who could not beat Zoet. However, Bas Dost got the ball and had no problems to shoot the ball into the net.

In the 57th minute, Jeroen Zoet showed again what he is able to do. After a good solo effort by Julian Draxler, he saved his shot, but Caligiuri got the ball, crossed it into the centre of the box, where Max Kruse headed it home.

In the following minutes, Eindhoven tried to get back to the game, but the Wolfsburg defencee did a good job and prevented any scoring opportunities for the Dutchmen.

A deserved win

After 90 minutes, Wolfsburg won the game 2-0 because they were the better team in the second half. In the first half, both teams failed to create good opportunities, but the hosts were ultimately more courageous and were rewarded themselves by winning the game.

Due to Manchester United only drawing 1-1 against CSKA Moscow, the Wölfe take lead in group B with six points out of three games.
