It was a turgid game for spells, though the end was anything but.

After leading for almost the entire second half thanks to Yussuf Poulsen's early strike, Benedikt Röcker looked to have earned Greuther Fürth a point in added time. However, Stefan Ilsanker had other ideas and popped up with an even later goal to win the game and keep RB Leipzig top of the 2. Bundesliga.

Leipzig on top throughout the first half

The opening stages were tight and tense, with both teams struggling to make any headway going forward. Any chances seemed to come through Emil Forsberg's incisive passing, though neither Georg Teigl or Marcel Sabitzer could take full advantage; the latter was denied by Sebastian Mielitz, while the former chipped over the bar.

While the Shamrocks were offering little in attack, they looked solid at the back and were imposing themselves on Leipzig. Diego Demme, Teigl and Forsberg all needed treatment after some rather robust tackles from their hosts. Christian Dingert was, however, happy to let the game flow at every opportunity.

A rare Fürth opportunity came about on the half hour, though Marco Caligiuri's cross was gathered brilliantly by Fabio Coltorti. That was merely a brief moment of respite, as the Bulls came back at Stefan Ruthenbeck's side. In spite of all their pressing and possession, they were continually frustrated by Mielitz and his back-line.

Two late shots fell the way of either team, but both Coltorti and Mielitz stood strong to repel the advances of the opposition attackers. Dominik Kaiser had a late shot that zipped narrowly past the post and, with the half-time whistle sounding not long after, the visitors were left wondering how they hadn't managed to score.

Early Bulls breakthrough, Röcker rescues the Shamrocks but Leipzig win it late on

After a half of resistence and hard work, that all went out the window within two minutes of the restart. Leipzig had somehow been denied by by Mielitz and Franke moments before, but the goalkeeper was powerless to prevent Forsberg from sliding Yussuf Poulsen through on goal. The young Dane then kept his cool to round the 'keeper and slot home, providing the finish the pass deserved.

The hosts, to their credit, tried to kick on and get back into the game immediately after going behind. A series of promising set-pieces came and went, with Goran Sukalo inches away from flicking home an equaliser. This led to a run of frustrated tackles flying in, with Dingert forced to show yellow cards to both Stephan Schröck and Robert Zulj.

The latter period of the game saw the hosts have three penalty appeals turned down, with Leipzig living dangerously towards the end. They did seen out the 90 minutes comfortably, but Benedikt Röcker managed to steal in ahead of Coltorti to grab what looked like a share of the spoils at the death. There would be one final sting in the tail, though. Willi Orban headed a free-kick down to Stefan Ilsanker, who managed to slot home in the 93rd minute to deservedly ensure Leipzig's spot at the top.
