Borussia Dortmund defender Mats Hummels has revealed that recent transfer speculation about his future has caused him to lose sleep

Losing Sleep

The German international has been the subject of plenty of transfer rumours as the season nears it's end and Hummels admitted that the rumours have affected him off the field. Speaking to Sky, Hummels said, "It's a very difficult decision, and when I finally make it people will understand how hard it is for me."

"It's been taking me at least a half an hour extra to fall asleep for several weeks now because this is such a big issue for me."

The defender is clearly thinking hard about the future and losing sleep proves just how tough such a decision can be.

Plenty of interest

While a half an hour may not seem much, it shows that Hummels has been affected by the upcoming decision about what he does with his future. Manchester United, Barcelona and Liverpool are just a few teams that have been linked with the defender in recent months, which undoubtedly makes the decision even harder for Hummels.

"It's been taking me at least a half an hour extra to fall asleep for several weeks now because this is such a big issue for me."

The centre-back's contract expires in 2017 but with so many teams interested, it's likely that he may be tempted away from Dortmund this summer instead of allowing his contract to run out.

The 27-year old has been a huge part of Thomas Tuchel's turnaround of Dortmund after their disappointing 2014-15 campaign. While Tuchel will want to hang on to his experience defender, the player and club may not be able to keep some of Europe's biggest clubs from snapping the defender up.

There has been nothing to suggest that Hummels wants to leave the club but with so many options on the table this summer, there will be plenty of decisions to make for the player and for Borussia Dortmund.
