Benitez: “We have nothing to lose”

Sitting 3rd in Group F, Benitez’ Napoli are in a tight spot as their faith will be sealed with a result versus Arsenal but a victory won’t necessarily see them go through.

How do you survive the rollercoaster of emotions in Naples?

BENITEZ: It doesn’t condition me. I’ve been doing this job for many years, and I only and always think about my team that has to always give 100% which will allow the fans to back the team and give us a hand.

Is the game against Arsenal the perfect one for Napoli from a tactical standpoint, as it’s necessary to attack?

BENITEZ: Possibly. Arsenal play both the possession game as well as on the counter. We will need to attack, but always with the right balance. Pressing and passing around like we did at the beginning of the season.

Napoli’s Champions League?

BENITEZ: We go into this game with nothing to lose. Our journey has been a positive one, and I came here for this competition. We were unlucky to be put in such a difficult group, but for me it’s always better being in these games than watching at home.

Did you speak with De Laurentiis?

BENITEZ: We spoke yesterday, but these things I keep to myself.

Will you keep yourself updated on Marseille-Dortmund?

BENITEZ: It could be something useful [to know the other result], but that’s not the message I want to transmit to my squad: I want to win scoring one or more goals. If they score one, we’ll try and score four. We know Arsenal are very good, but we’ll do our best.

Wenger doesn’t know much of Napoli…

BENITEZ: Being part of the Champions League is an honour and pride for all the fans of Napoli. For us, playing [at home] at the San Paolo is a point of strength.

Will you have a break before the game?

BENITEZ: Playing so often and being away from your family is not something nice but we have rules. We will be going back at 20.45 because we have training in the morning.

Will Reina and Behrami play?

BENITEZ: Valon [Behrami] trained normally with the team while Pepe [Reina] trained on his own. I’ll evaluate their conditions tomorrow.

Will the result versus Udinese affect the team?

BENITEZ: We’re angry about the result [3-3] but we’re already concentrated on Arsenal, and have been for a few days. The boys know how important this game is and they’ve all trained very well.

How good are Arsenal?

BENITEZ: They are a very strong team. This could be their year [wining the Premier League].

What is your approach to this game?

BENITEZ: We will try to score immediately, then we will also see the results of the other game.
