The first chance fell to Juventus. Bakary Koné and Dani Osvalo battled for the ball but neither could win it, the ball then whipped in the air straight into the path of Carlos Tevez but he squandered his effort as he headed it wide. Both sides couldn't get any sort of stranglehold on the game as Lyon were the next team to have an attempt on goal. Juventus keeper Gianlugi Buffon pulled off an excellent save, a ball was played over the top to Steed Malbranque but his fierce near post drive was saved by the Italian.
The home side could have sneaken in front through Jimmy Briand, Kone fought with Paul Pogba for the ball which then fell nicley for Briand but somehow he looped it over the bar from close range. Argetinian international, Carlos Tevez could have put the away side in the ascendency, the mercurial genius that is Andrea Pirlo played a graceful ball to Tevez but he could only manage a toe-poke straight at Anthony Lopes.
Lyon started the second on top as Samuel Umtiti went close to scoring with a powerful costless-kick but Buffon tipped it wide. Andrea Pirlo then again played in one of his typical elegant costless-kicks, Briand nearly scored an own goal from it as his glancing header was going straight at goal, but Lopes was alert as he diverted over.
Juventus then had two chances in the space a few seconds and they were created by substitute Sebastian Giovivnco, who was a live-wire when introduced to the game just after half-time. The little Italian made a lovely bit of wing wizadry down the right hand side, he then crossed but it was punched out by Lopes, the rebound was met by Kwandwo Asamoah but the ball was blocked just past the post.
Substitue Mirko Vučinić should have won the game for The Old Lady, Giovinco played a ball across the box straight into his feet but somehow managed to blaze it over from a few yards out. Luckily that wasn't the last chance of game as the winner came a few minutes later. Some lacklustre defedning from Lyon at a corner was exploited by Leonardo Bonucci, as the Italian defender crashed home from clsoe range, winning the game in the process.
