Diego Simeone's side managed to claim their first win of the 2014/15 Champions league campaign over Italian giants, Juventus, 1-0

The 1st half was a very quite half yet brutal half of football. Brawls between the two sides occurred throughout the opening half such as Mandzukic confronting Bonucci in the 12th minute. The Madrid side defended well and the reigning La Liga champions also had a few chances from Mandzukic and Saul. Juventus’ best chance fell for Paul Pogba when his long-range effort fired wide of the post.

There was a penalty claim for Juventus in the 7th minute when Llorente was brought down in the penalty box by Miranda but the referee allowed play to continue. There was another penalty claim in the first halve, but this time to Atletico when Mandzukic’s back heel hit Vidal on the arm, however the ref again disallowed the incident. Mandzukic's shot from far out is well dealt with by Buffon in the 24th minute.

The first real chance of the second half came to Atletico Madrid when the Madrid side almost made it 1-0 in the 59th minute as Adra Turan curled in a ball that Juventus centre back Chiellini managed to clear onto fellow teammates Caceres' arm and the ball almost bounced into the net, however Buffon’s lightening quick reactions managed to keep the ball off the line and away from danger. The Italian shot stopper then made a series of good interventions and saves from crosses and then Juventus finally cleared.

Finally, after over 70 minutes of good defending form Juventus the deadlock was finally broken and it was Adra Turan who scored the decisive goal. Juanfran whips in a great ball from the right wing. Mandzukic misses the header but the ball finds its way to Turan and the Turkish winger manages to get at the end of it and the winger pokes it past a motionless Buffon to give Atletico the lead. Juventus almost grabbed a late equaliser but Moya pulled of a brilliant save to deny fellow teammate Garcia from scoring an own goal in the 80th minute. Despite the late scare the hosts managed to hang on and secure the 1-0 win over The Old Lady
