Serie A strugglers AC Milan have completed the signings of defenders Luca Antonelli and Gabriel Paletta on transfer deadline day.

Antonelli has returned to his former club from Genoa, with the left-back completing a three-and-a-half year deal for an undisclosed fee.

The 27-year-old initiated his career in the youth academy at San Siro, but later left to join Parma. Most recently joining Genoa back in 2011, his new deal with Filippo Inzaghi’s side will see him remain in Italy until 2018.

Antonelli reportedly turned down a switch to Liverpool, also able to feature in a central midfield position if required. The defender featured 19 times for Genoa throughout the 2014/15 campaign, with just a single appearance from the bench.

Joining the full-back is Paletta, who previously featured for Premier League giants rejected by Antonelli. The central defender signed for the Reds back in 2006, but failed to make an impact. Joining Milan from Parma, his deal also expires in the summer of 2018.

The Italian managed 565 minutes throughout the season for Parma, making six starts and one appearance from the bench.

Inzaghi’s side currently sit in ninth place in Serie A, and recently crashed out of the Coppa Italia at the hands of Lazio in the quarter-finals.
