This afternoon's clash was an important one for Chievo, needing to secure at least a point to ease the pressure of falling into the relegation zone. For Milan the objective was simple, get three points and take a temporary hold of 6th spot.

On-loan Juventus defender, Federico Mattiello enjoyed his first start for the Gialloblu, meanwhile Cerci continued life at Milan from the bench, coming on as a substitute in the 79th minute.

In what was a lacklustre game, the first half was hard to watch at times. Milan enjoying the majority of possession but not using it to any sort of advantage and no genuiene attempts on goal from either side. Montolivo showing he is still finding his feet after the broken leg he suffered during a practice match before the World Cup, sometimes holding the ball in midfield for 2 or 3 touches too long. Menez continued his fine form at Milan, at times needing to drop to the halfway line to gain posssesion.

The second half saw Chievo press Milan's fragile defense and at times it looked like they would be the first to make a breakthrough, however it didn't eventuate. Apart from a clear opportunity at the start of the half for Milan, the second half would be worse than the first.

Verona put the Rossoneri on the back foot in the first minute with Birsa crossing a dangerous ball onto the penalty spot, only to be met by a diving defensive header from Bocchetti.

Milan had their first chance of the game on 7 minutes with Montolivo launching a long ball from just inside their attacking half into the on loan Roma striker Mattia Destro, however he couldn't get quite enough onto the ball to trouble Bizzarri in goals.

Izco's clumsy challenge on Bonaventura about 25 yards out gave Milan a free kick on 14 mins, De Jong stepped up only to hit the wall. The follow up from Bonera caused a scramble however Bizzarri once again finding the ball safe in his hands.

The on loan Juventus left back Mattiello made a run down the line to meet a pass from Schelotto on 22 minutes, showing some silky skills to make a run into the box but not able to get the shot away.

The Gialloblu commenced a break forward on 32 minutes through Pellssier only to be held up by what could be described as a silly sliding challenge from behind by the frenchman Menez to earn the first caution for the evening.

Milan looked to start the second half in a positive manner and Inzaghi's half time substitute Keisuke Honda had immediate effect, firing a shot from just outside the box only to rattle the crossbar. This being the first genuiene chance of the evening for either side.

Pellssier would find the ball at his feet on the left wing on 53 minutes sending a low cross into the six yard box, only to see it take a touch from the Milan defense and roll across the face of goal.

Bonaventura skipped through the midfield sending a cross into Destro in the box on 57 minutes, but he could only see it sail past his head in what looked like a clear obsruction on the Italian international, which really should have resulted in a penalty.

With some great build up work, Schelotto found the ball at his feet in Chievo's attacking half and is shot from just outside the 18 yard box forced Diego Lopez into a comfortable save.

Pazzini also looked to make his substitution inspiring with Menez beating the offside trap and cutting the ball back into the box, only to be met by Dainelli.

Chievo's next chance come on 70 minutes with the substitute Paloschi getting on the end of a cross from Pellissier to force a clearing saving over the crossbar from Lopez.

Menez's excellent through ball to Pazzini on 88 minutes was equally met by a great piece of defending from his former Fiorentina teammate Dainelli.
