Mattia Perin signed a contract on Wednesday that will see him remain with Genoa until the end of the 2018/19 season.

Perin had been linked with a host of top European clubs but the 22 year old has decided to stay where he is for now which will be a huge boost for Gian Piero Gasperini.

Perin is regarded by many as the best young goalkeeper in Europe and he has been tremendous in his short career to date. He had two loans spells with Padova and Pescara which allowed him to get first team football before becoming Genoa's first choice goalkeeper ahead of the 2013/14 season. Perin made his international debut in November 2014 when he came on as a late substitute in a win over Albania and he is widely expected to be the successor to Gianluigi Buffon as the Azzurri's number one.

Perin will now look to improve his game with Genoa where he will play regular football and should he leave in the future he will no doubt be a better player for the extra years he has put in with Il Grifone.
