Carlos Tevez returns to the club where he started his career, after a nine year spell in Europe. The 31-year-old is back in Argentina following spells in Brazil for Corinthians, England for West Ham United, Manchester United and Manchester City and Italy for Juventus.

Boca president Daniel Angelici said: "It is a day of joy and great satisfaction." He called the return "an extraordinary moment" and that it is "fantastic news for all partners and supporters of Boca and Argentine football". He added that Tevez "will give another leap in quality to the great squad we have".

A successful time in Italy

The club announced the news during the Argentina-Colombia Copa America quarter-final match in Chile. Juventus have already replaced Tevez with Mario Mandzukic from Atletico Madrid. Tevez scored 29 goals in 47 games last season, having won the Serie A for the second straight time and the Coppa Italia. He also finished as runners-up in the UEFA Champions League, after losing in Berlin 3-1 to Barcelona.

In his two seasons in Turin he scored 50 times in 95 matches, winning four trophies in the process. Before that he enjoyed a seven year spell in England where he won a combined nine trophies at both Manchester clubs - including a Champions League and three Premier League titles - scoring 114 goals in 276 matches.

Before that, he played two seasons at Brazilian giants Corinthians, where he helped them to the Brasileirão in 2005 and notched up 46 goals in games.

Can he better his first spell with Boca?

He started his career at Boca Juniors in 2001, playing there for three years and averaged just under a goal every other game during his first spell at Boca. Tevez won the league, the Copa Libertadores and the Intercontinental Cup in 2003, as well as the Copa Sudamericana in 2004, and was voted South American Player of the Year for three straight seasons.

Shortly after the announcement was made, Tevez, who appeared in the Argentina squad for the first time in a tournament in four years, came on to score the winning penalty in a shootout to send Argentina into the last four of the Copa America; avenging his miss against Uruguay four years ago in the quarter-finals in Argentina.
