Fiorentina are speaking to Liverpool about the availability of striker Fabio Borini, according to La Nazione.

The Italian striker is certain to leave Anfield this summer after a season where he found first team football hard to come by. The Gigliati seem to be favourites to sign him but the two sides, and the player, are yet to agree a deal.

Borini's recent struggle

Over the past two seasons, Borini hasn't hit the levels he should be hitting.

In the 2013-14 season he was on loan at Sunderland, where he scored seven goals in 32 appearances in the Premier League, but, although he scored many important goals for Sunderland, he wasn't good enough overall, despite the Black Cats efforts to lure him back to the Stadium of Light.

Last season, he stayed on at Liverpool, hoping to make an impression and become a first team regular. This wasn't to be, as he only made three starts and came off the bench nine times - scoring just one goal in the process.

After a disappointing year, Liverpool will be looking to move Borini on, but are looking for almost £8 million for the 24-year-old. The media believe that an agreement will be made within the next few days as Borini is eager to return to Italy.

Possible impact at La Viola

After the loss of Mario Gomez to Besiktas, Fiorentina are in the market for a new man to lead their front line. There is no doubt that if Borini could settle and find his form, he would turn out to be an excellent buy for the club.

Fiorentina finished 4th in Serie A last season and need to ensure that they make the right purchases so they can keep up with the rest of the pack, with the teams around them strengthening well.
