Seydou Doumbia has finalised a move back to CSKA Moscow, confirmed by the club.

The Ivorian joined Roma in January from CSKA for €14 million, but has struggled for consistency and will soon be knocked further down the pecking order with the arrival of Edin Džeko from Manchester City.

The 27-year-old scored just twice in 13 appearances and will join on loan until January, where CSKA will retain the option to buy.

A missed opportunity

The Ivorian had netted 29 goals in two seasons before his arrival in January and he was widely expected to assume the goalscoring burden from Francesco Totti.

However, Rudi Garcia's reluctance to utilise a bona fide No.9 in his XI meant the Ivorian spent a large chunk of the season on the periphery.

It took him until his eighth appearance to open his account in Roma colours and struggled to hold down a starting spot as their season began to crumble.

“There is the possibility of extending the loan until the end of the 2015-16 season," confirmed CSKA Moscow on their club website. "The Ivorian striker will wear the number 88 shirt, which he had prior to leaving CSKA."

Doumbia has also been included in the squad for the Uefa Champions League play-offs.

Surplus to requirements

With the addition of Edin Džeko to Roma's ranks, Doumbia's game time is likely to diminish.

The Bosnian was purchased for a similar fee, though is viewed by many as the more dependable forward.

Roma are also looking to offload Mattia Destro -- who spent the second half of last term on loan to Milan -- with Serie A newboys Bologna interested in the 24-year-old's service.

Roma travel to the Juventus Stadium on matchday two of the Serie A season and Roma coach Rudi Garcia will be looking to tie up his business early, after overseeing the arrival of Mohamed Salah from Chelsea last week.
