Serie A-side Roma will be looking to quickly replace their centre-back Alessio Romagnoli as they prepare a move for Catania defender Norbert Gyomber.

Manager Rudi Garcia is looking to add the final touches to his squad of the new Italian league season having already solidified their attacking options with the signings of Edin Dzeko and Mohamed Salah from Manchester City and Chelsea respectively.

They will be looking to continue their spending spree by paying Catania for a fee believed to be in the region of €2 million plus bonuses for the Slovakian international.

Gyomber moved to Italy back in 2013 from Slovakian side FK Dukla Banska Bystrica, however, his first season didn’t go according to plan making just 13 appearances with his new club ultimately been relegated to Serie B.

Agreement in place

The 23-year-old is expected to be a direct replacement for Romagnoli who is currently in Milan undergoing a medical before completing his proposed move to AC Milan.

Both sides held discussions on Sunday over a deal believed to be worth in region of €25 million which could possibly rise to €30m depending on bonuses with Milan CEO Adriano Galliani saying the deal was “99.8 per cent” done.

The 20-year-old is a product of the Roma youth academy making his first-team debut back in the 2012-13. However, his career at the Stadio Olimpico had stagnated after he failed to secure a first-team spot in the capital which saw him spend last season on loan at Sampdoria.

He excelled during is loan spell making 30 appearances under former boss Sinisa Mihajlovic who he will reunite with after he took over at Milan this summer.

Milan have splashed the cash this summer spending €63m so far in an attempt to bring Champions League football back to the San Siro. Jose Mauri, Carlos Bacca, Luiz Adriano, Andrea Bertolacci, Simone Verdi, Rodrigo Ely and Luca Antonelli all making the move.
