Fiorentina are said to be ready to open negotiations with full back Marcos Alonso over a new deal before the turn of the year when he can negotiate with other clubs as per La Nazione reports.

The 24-year-old joined La Viola back in 2013 from Bolton Wanderers and spent last year out on loan at Sunderland making  16 appearances.

The four time Spanish youth international is in the final year of his contract at the Stadio Artemi Franchi and will not be short of possible destinations if no new deal is agreed.

Fiorentina also considering Fernandez extension

Fiorentina officials are also said to be waiting on an answer from boss Paulo Sousa as to if they should offer Matias Fernandez a new deal.

The 29-year-old Chilean trickster is subject to interest from former club Colo Colo in the Chilean top flight and has allegedly turned down the opportunity previously.

Compatriot David Pizarro left Florence in the summer for Chilean club Santiago Wanderers  but Fernandez never joined him back in their homeland and instead opted to stay in Italy for at least one more year.

Trio of defenders shortlisted

Going into the international break, Fiorentina have conceded just four times in seven games and sit atop the Serie A table deservedly.

A 4-0 battering of the apparent re-emerging Milan has been just one of many positives alongside their strong defensive form so far this season but the club are said to be after reinforcements.

The ageing Phillipe Mexes of Milan, Bologna's Luca Rossettini and Benfica's Lisandro Lopez are all on a three man shortlist of possible reinforcements according to La Nazione.

Mexes would have already been a Fiorentina player had the club followed up their interest in the summer with a formal bid.

Regardless of who is chosen on the list, if any of them at all, it is unlikely that they will be first team features imminently after arrival.
