After breaking through into the Real Madrid first team this past season, defender Raphael Varane has become a summer transfer target for some of Europe's most celebrated clubs, but the French international is not ready to leave the Bernabeu just yet.

According to TV3, Varane, 20, has rejected a move to Barcelona after the La Liga champions met the Frenchmans release clause of £25.5million. Varane's reasoning for this was to "repay the confidence" Los Blancos have put in him over the season.

However, new Manchester United manager David Moyes is still looking for that 'marquee' signing to put his stamp on the club, and has identified Varane as a potential signing.

The allure of Premeir League football may be enough to take Varane from the clutches of Real Madrid, but it may be best for his development to stay at Madrid for a couple more seasons, where he is guaranteed a starting place.
