Following the departures of both Barcelona keepers from last season (Valdes and Pinto). It had become apparent that Barcelona would need to sign two keepers in this summer transfer window. While ter Stegen's transfer was completed a number of weeks ago, speculation had been mounting on who would be joining him at Barcelona next season.

Well, it's official, Claudio Bravo is a Barcelona player. Since the World Cup began talks had been ongoing between Real Sociedad and Barcelona. During the last few days his arrival was said to be "imminent". Well, now he's arrived.

Claudio Bravo, 31, a highly experienced La Liga keeper will sign for Barcelona for the next four seasons. Bravo will compete with the other summer signing Marc-Andre ter Stegen for the goalkeeping jersey next season.

The transfer is reported to be worth around €12m, slightly expensive for a keeper who will most likely be used in the cup competitions. However, Bravo's signing could prove to be a very wise choice from Barcelona. Having competed in the Champions League earlier on this season, Claudio Bravo is much more experienced at the top level than some are giving him credit for. He's competed at European level for Real Sociedad for a number of seasons now, and has consistently been among the top goalkeepers in the league during his 8 years in Spain.

Yes, it's expected that Bravo will indeed be the number 2 to ter Stegen next season, however, this might not always be the case. Some Spanish journalists are reporting that Bravo and ter Stegen could be used equally in the league and cup competitions throughout the season. This could work.

With 229 La Liga appearances to his name, Claudio Bravo could prove to be the perfect second goalkeeping choice this summer. At 31, he will accept that he's not likely to be in the long-term plans of Barcelona. But, he will also feel that he is reaching the peak of his career. Bravo will be the perfect man to bed ter Stegen into the league. While ter Stegen is one of the most promising young goalkeepers in the world, he does lack experience. Something that Bravo has in abundance.

Bravo is also a leader, he's the captain of Chile, and leads from the back. Something which is running a little dry at Barcelona. With Puyol and Valdes gone, and possibly Xavi on the way out too, Barcelona are running low on leaders. Bravo's other strengths are his shot stopping and technical ability. Both attributes are essential to any Barcelona keeper. Bravo thrives upon one-on-one scenarios and is very good with the ball at his feet, again, essential.

While some Barcelona fans are questioning the amount paid for Bravo (almost the same price as ter Stegen), he could prove to be a very valuable member of this new-look Barcelona squad.

So that's the goalkeeper situation addressed at Barcelona. What's the next task for them now? Defenders. We will keep you posted.
