Luis Suárez's legal team went to the court of arbitration for sport in an attempt to try and halve the four-month ban for biting Italy defender Giorgi Chiellini during the World Cup - but CAS have rejected the appeal and ensured that the ban still stands up until the 25th of October.

The Suárez camp felt that the punishment was unfair because they argued you cannot stop someone from doing their work - arguing that FIFA were too excessive with their ban and he should not be banned "from all footballing activity."

He was virtually isolated up until now, where he will now be allowed a bit more freedom.

However, the good news for Barcelona is that he is allowed to train - even though it is not yet clear as to whether he will be permitted to train in the Nou Camp with his team-mates, it's a morale boost for the Spaniards ahead of the new campaign.

Still awaiting more information from CAS around today's news, and there is sure to be responses from Suárez's representatives and the club itself.

The decision may have not gone down with Barca and Suárez himself, because he was eager to start the season towards the end of the month; but it's a sensible decision and a punishment is fair for someone who has done this on more than one occasion, so he needs to learn that it is unacceptable.

He is set to miss 8 Liga BBVA matches and 3 UEFA Champions League group stage games between the start of the season and the date that the ban is finished by, but at long last he will be able to play alongside his team-mates and feel part of the team. He is also elegible to play friendlies now which could see him take part in the Gamper trophy on Monday 18th August, a huge boost to Barcelona's squad and with the return of Messi and Neymar could see the feared trio make their debut together.
